Make the best use of Joker cards in Rummy Games

There are 2 types of Jokers in a Rummy Game:

1. Printed Joker - A Printed Joker is the usual Joker card in our deck of cards.

2. Wild Joker - A Wild Joker is selected at random at the beginning of the game

In the image below, A♥️ is the Wild Joker, then the A of every suit – hearts, spades, clubs and diamonds – is a Wild Card that can be used to create a sequence or a set.

Here are few tips to make the best use of Joker in your rummy game:

1. USE/REPLACE JOKERS WITH HIGH-VALUE CARDS -

When in doubt, simply begin with trying to use the Joker with cards of higher value. This will help in reducing your points. Or always try to use the Joker with cards of higher value like Queens & Kings. This will reduce your points.

If your opponent has declared the game before you, you have the opportunity to reduce your points by combining the cards using the joker cards. You can meld the joker cards in groups to reduce your points while arranging your cards. It is always good to possess joker cards as it does not add weight to your points.

2. DISCARD CARDS CLOSE TO JOKERS -

This online rummy game trick can help you win a lot while playing with Jokers. Once you see the Wild joker, try to get rid of its adjacent cards. Your opponent would not like to waste a Joker to form a pure sequence with it. So, there is a good probability that your opponent will not pick your discarded cards.

For example, if 4♥ is the open joker, you may not want to keep 2♥, 3♥, 5♥ and 6♥.

This strategy has been popularly used by many rummy experts, who believe this could make or break a game. You can have a safe discard by following this strategy.

3. CHECK THE WILD JOKER BEFORE PLANNING FOR SETS -

Wait for the wild joker cards and then start planning for sets. That way you can choose better picks from the deck. Also, if you start forming the sets immediately after the cards are dealt then there is a risk of discarding any useful cards as well.

Wait to check the open Joker card and then plan your sets. This way, you run a lower risk of discarding any useful card and would be able to choose better picks from the deck.

4. GET RID OF TOO MANY JOKERS -

Using more than one joker can help you complete and declare the game faster which in turn increases your chances of winning. But do not feel lucky if you get too many Jokers. Having too many Jokers reduces the chances of forming a pure sequence in online rummy games. In such cases, discarding Jokers is not a bad option, as your opponents are unlikely to pick your discarded Jokers.
